Custom Background with Paper Weaving | Kathleen Schmelz

Hey Pinkfresh Studio fans! It’s Kathleen here, and today I’m excited to share my first project with the new BooVille collection with you.

As soon as I saw the collection, I knew that the paper with the colorful stripes would be one of the first ones I'd be using. I absolutely love the color scheme!

Let's take a look at how you can recreate this layout:

1. Base: Use a 12" x 12" white cardstock as the base for your layout.
2. Paper Weaving: 
   1. Cut the striped paper from the 6" x 6" paper pad into individual color strips, then cut each strip in half again.
   2. Weave the strips together, keeping the original color order or mixing them up for a different look.
   3. Adhere the woven panel to the center of the white cardstock with thin foam adhesive.
3. Photos: Trim (2) photos to slightly smaller than 3" x 4" and adhere them to the woven element, slightly overlapping.
4. Embellishments & Finishing Touches:
   
   1. Add a mix of ephemera and floral ephemera to the left of the photos and adhere a title from the Puffy Titles on top.
   2. Add spiderweb Rub-ons in different areas of the layout.
      Tip: Arrange them in a visual triangle to help draw the eye to your photos.
   3. Use small embellishments like Enamel Shapes or Puffy Stickers for a finishing touch.

Tip: Don't skip the little details! The machine-stitched spiderweb the ephemera spider hangs from adds extra texture and interest. Hand stitching would work just as well.

I hope you like this project and feel inspired to give this technique a try! Paper weaving is also a perfect way to use up some leftover paper strips! You could easily switch up the color scheme to make it fit any occasion.
